Pointer Rescue -- helping to make a difference

Belle is a Real Beauty

If you are looking for the sweetest cuddlebug, or the most gorgeous, liver and white pointer who loves to play ball, then you are looking at the right dog. Belle is a 1 and 1/2 year old girl currently in a PRO foster home in TN. She is spayed, has had all her vaccinations, is heartworm negative and on preventative. Belle is also housebroken and crate-trained.

Belle will do anything for a pat on the head, or a good ole' ear rub. She lives for you to look her way and smile. Her tail is ALWAYS wagging.

Unfortunately for Belle her life has not always been so happy. She was turned into an Alabama shelter with another Pointer named Beau. They were there for a month before they were rescued. Belle has a wonderful nose on her but apparently she didn't live up to her previous owner's expectations. When Belle had to go to the vet for some back trouble, the X-ray's showeded that she has 2 fused vertebra. The vet, who is an orthopedic specialist, determined that the cause of this injury was a blunt blow to her back as a puppy. Belle's foster also home knew that she had a few bird shot pellet's in her ears, possibly from a few stray shots whizzing over her head as she held her point; but the X-ray's gave the full story. Belle did not have stray pellet's in her body, she had been shot at least once from very close range. Through no fault of her own, Belle will be a special needs dog. More than likely, her back trouble was the cause of her being dumped at a shelter to be euthanized. If she has too much exercise her back can go out, causing her to need crate rest until the inflammation goes down. Belle is no invalid though! She is under the direct supervision of a orthopedic specialist, and it is still being determined just exactly how much exercise is too much for Ms. Belle. She also has a slight Hip Dysplasia in her left hip. Her foster home has put her on a Senior Diet which will help with the hip dysplasia. She is also taking an inexpensive daily medication. This is not a problem for Belle right now. It could be a problem in the future but steps are being taken to prevent this. Belle's one main problem now is trying to find a family to love. She has lived such a short time and has known such cruelty, all she wants now is to spend her life loving and being loved.
