Pointer Rescue -- helping to make a difference

Darla, and her sister Sally, were picked up as strays in Lakeland, FL by the Polk Co. Animal Control. Neither girl was made available for adoption because they tested positive to heartworms with the snap test. This didn't give them any chance at all and they were scheduled for euthanasia within days if a rescue group couldn't be found to take them. We agreed to rescue these 2 young girls and had them retested for heartworms with a more extensive lab test. They came back negative! So both girls are healthy, full of energy, and ready to find forever homes. Darla is a sweet, active girl, between 8 mos. and 1 yr. old, spayed, and current on her shots. She loves people, is great with kids, gets along great with other dogs, and is crate trained. She needs a fenced yard to run in, doesn't dig, but can squeeze through our 4"x4" mesh wire. She's a petite little girl (pocket pointer!) but will probably get too big to do that in the future. When she gets out of the fence, she romps around our pasture a bit, then asks to come in the house. She's never run off, stays close to the house, and comes readily when called. She still needs a little work on housetraining as she is still a pup. She's high energy, very personable and friendly, and would make a great jogging partner and is still young enough to be trained for field work. If you're looking for a furry friend that has many years ahead of her as a running buddy or hunting companion, as well as a couch & bed warmer, Darla might just be the one for you.
