Pointer Rescue -- helping to make a difference

Lonesome No More?

My name is Abraham and I was a stray dog, brought to a shelter in Missouri in January, 2007. I had a bad wound on my back leg that required surgery, but now I'm good as new (with a little scar on my butt). A lot of nice people helped drive me over 1000 miles, across 4 states to my foster home in Idaho. I'm a very good passenger, and would love to go on more roadtrips!

I am about 4 years old and will probably weigh around 55 pounds now that I'm getting a good, nutritious diet. I was neutered just before coming out to Idaho and when I first arrived in my foster home, I tried to mark in the house, but now I know that's not OK. I still like to "do my thing" outside, but I haven't tried it in the house ever since my first night home. I am very gentle and a little timid when I first meet new people. After I see that I can trust you (which doesn't take long) my goofy, pointer personality comes out. I really like attention and will follow my foster mom around, even nipping at her heels if I want her to pet me. I don't know my basic obedience commands yet, but I have good manners in the house and out in public. I love to go for walks and do pretty well on a leash. I sleep in my kennel at night and will even go there for naps during the day. I'd really like to sleep in bed with my foster mom, but she said no. She doesn't want me to get in the habit in case my new adoptive parents don't want me on the bed.

Besides being housebroken, I get along well with dogs and cats so I would fit into most any household. Right now I'm living with 4 other dogs and 3 cats! What a crazy house this is. I've met a couple children and don't seem to mind them. My foster mom thinks I could live with kids as long as they are gentle with me. My only bad habit is that I can climb fences, so if you have to leave me alone outside for long periods, I might need a solid wooden fence or invisible fencing. I've never tried to climb out of the fence at my foster home, but I might if I get bored or lonely. I really just want to be with you, whether it's at home, in the car, at work or on a walk. Hopefully my lonely days are over.....
