Pointer Rescue -- helping to make a difference

Dexter found his way North

I have been fostering Dexter for one month and the progress he has made is astonishing. I did not think it was possible since the conditions he came out of were not ideal for the pointer personality. I thought it would take much longer.

He gets along great with my other dogs and any dogs that happen to visit (we have had lots of dog company). He has been tested with children over 10 and is just great with all company. He has not been tested with younger children yet.

He has gained all house privileges with his good manners. He is housebroken, crate trained, working on his recall, and is allowed to run with an electronic collar. He loves attention and being around humans. My guess is that he has been trained to hunt and does have a strong prey drive.

He is such a beautiful liver and white guy. He has learned not to counter surf or chase the cat, to wait his turn for treats, and to not bolt out the door. All of these rules he passed within one week.

He just wants to please you and be your friend. Some of the things we are still working on: taking possession of shoes, gloves and other items left around that are not part of this toys, and to walk nicely on lead. Dexter likes to have some exercise, but loves to lounge on his dog bed when he is done. We are continuing with his training and making excellent progress.

My guess is that he is about 1 to 1 1/2 years old. He is heartworm negative, has had all his shots, and is neutered. Oh, he loves car rides and having his picture taken!
