Pointer Rescue -- helping to make a difference

Id like to introduce you to Penny! She is an older, orange and white female, whose life was saved by Pointer Rescue, the morning of her scheduled euthanasia. Her time ran out at a shelter in GA, so it was decided she would come to live in a foster home here in MD.

She is a total sweetheart and very content to just be around people. She does well with the two resident Pointers, one of which is an alpha female, and the kids in her foster home (ages 2 and 4) make her "smile" and wag her tail. She's great around them and will crawl in their laps for attention. She's not scared of anything it seems and loves her cushy dog bed, plus I think she's more comfortable there. Shes very well behaved indoors and out and doesn't nuisance bark whatsoever, but is lively and did bark outside to the call of our neighbor's dog. She enjoys basking in the sun and I often wonder what she is thinking about as she lies there with the sun on face after a good meal. She is soaking up the good life and wags her tail the entire time she eats. Her grateful, sweet nature shines through her deep brown eyes which are rimmed with the most ridiculously cute white eyelashes. Id like to say shes housebroken; at least she hasnt had any accidents while left free to roam in the house. She'd be the perfect companion dog for almost anyone; or someone that wants a mellow, well behaved dog, or even for a first time dog owner.

She has an unbelievable spirit about her even though she physically shows signs of a rough life. It appears shes been a mama several times and possibly used in the field for hunting. All of her front teeth have been grinded down and I'm told some hunters do this so the dogs won't bite/chew on the birds while retrieving them.. This doesnt seem to inhibit her eating at all as she enjoys chomping down hard treats and regular dog food. She seems to have had some surgery on her hip and it shows in her gait a little, as she tends to hop along just a little with her back legs. This does not impede her ability to walk, run or jump though and she enjoys every aspect of playing outside and is very mobile. She would benefit from a fenced in yard.

Penny is up to date on all of her shots, on heartworm preventative and will be spayed before adoption.
