Dixie Deserves a Dependable Domicile
Dixie arrived at her new foster home in North Carolina at the end of September. She is a delightful energetic girl. Outside the house she is go go go, but inside she settles down and is content to sleep on her dog bed or accompany family members around the house. She likes to be where the action is. She also loves belly rubs. She is generally affable around children. She's 1 ˝ years old, is spayed and current on all of her vaccinations. She likes stealing socks, sweaters, and anything else soft, but she is not particularly destructive. Really, she just wants you to play, tug-of-war being her favorite. Luckily, she's good at dropping when you really would rather her not tug at the kitchen towel or the kids' stuffed animals. Dixie is happiest when she is running like the wind after a squirrel or playing chase and tussle with just about any other dog at the park. She recently attended her first dog obedience class and won great praise from the instructor, who said he had never seen pointer so attentive to its handler. She's a fast learner! She sits reliably, is getting good at down, leave it, and starting to learn recall. And she shows great potential in agility training. She'd love to accompany a family that hunts, and with a little training she would be fabulous. Walking on a leash seems to be a relatively new experience to her, but she is starting to learn leash manners. She is house trained and crate trained. Now on to a couple of Dixie's more challenging traits… She easily clears a 4-foot fence (and probably could get over a 5-footer), so a high physical fence or electronic fence is a must with her. We just put in a new electronic fence, and we're pretty sure she'll do great on it. The other big challenge is her strong desire to eat our pet guinea pigs. I assume she would be equally excited to chase a cat. Dixie is a beautiful girl with a strong desire to please. She would make a great dog for an active family, ideally with an ample fenced yard. She's a pleasure to have in our home and has won our hearts. She's sure to win yours!
