Pointer Rescue -- helping to make a difference

Ace Needs Your Help!

Ace - 6 years old, fostered in New York
Dog ID#: 151361-P-D-NC

Hi, Iím Ace and Iím so happy to meet you! Pointer Rescue found me at a shelter in North Carolina where I arrived as a stray. The shelter estimated Iím around 6 years old. Iíve lost track of my age -- I might be a little bit older, but not much. I must have gotten lost on a hunt and nobody came to reclaim me. I wish I could tell my foster mom about my past, but sheís pretty sure I was a hunting dog because I have little pieces of birdshot under my skin. They donít bother me at all, but my foster mom says they feel a little funny when sheís petting me. Iíve been in my foster home for a couple months now. Apparently I had a disease called heartworms. Those worms were yucky and made me tired and skinny, but now Iíve finished my treatment, have gained weight, and am feeling much better!

It took me a little while to get used to living in a house, but now I wouldnít want to go back to living outside. I love people and want to be with you as much as possible. I personally think that Iím an excellent ďhelper.Ē I especially like to ďhelpĒ cook, ďhelpĒ keep a warm spot on your bed for you, and ďhelpĒ you cuddle up on the couch with a good book or to watch TV. My foster mom tells me Iím pretty well behaved but I have to work on something she calls ďcounter surfing.Ē I donít really understand whatís wrong with that -- I like to investigate good smells in my house and am very curious but I guess not having all 4 paws on the floor is considered rude in the people world. I walk well on leash and like to be outside with you. Iím respectful of fences and havenít tried to dig in the backyard. I have a pretty strong chew drive so tough and rugged toys are a must. I havenít been destructive in the house except that I do love to shred paper, so be sure to keep books and valuable papers out of my reach (I would be happy to help you shred junk mail, though Ė see, I told you Iím an excellent helper).

I like other dogs that are around my size. Really large dogs intimidate me a little bit and my play style might be a bit too rough for a very small dog. I met a few cats at PetSmart and pretty much ignored them, but I might be tempted to chase a cat that ran away from me. Iíd love some human siblings Ė kids are a lot of fun and play with me! I donít like my crate very much but will go in willingly with a treat and settle down and take a nap. Iím almost housebroken Ė Iíve never had a single accident in my crate and only a few accidents in the house and Iím very good at telling you when I need to go outside. Now that Iím finished my heartworm treatment Iím ready to find my forever home. Are you ready for me?

Ace is an amazing little guy (will be around 50# when at ideal weight) with a fun personality and an adorable snaggle-toothed smile! He is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, 95% housebroken, and recently finished heartworm treatment. He is very birdy and shows pointing instinct. He is on monthly heartworm and flea and tick preventative. If you would like to learn more about Ace, please fill out an adoption application!
