Riley Needs a New Home
Riley - 3 years old, fostered in Maine
Dog ID#: 191391-P-B-AR
Intake Date: 6/8/2019
Available for Adoption: July 2019
Welcome to the New Life of Riley featuring Riley and hopefully you. Riley is a sweet, loving, goofy 3 year-old. He loves playing with the resident dogs in his foster home, is a wonderful running/hiking companion, and happily curls up on the couch with his humans or canine buds. Riley loves road trips and is the perfect passenger (even when you’re trying to eat and drive).
Riley does well on a lead with a harness. He’s an easy walk until a squirrel or certain types of birds come into view. Barking dogs, noisy traffic, neighborhood kids don’t seem to phase him, but certain animals (we’re still figuring out Riley’s “favorites”) may cause him to pull or stalk and point.
Riley is not a picky eater nor has he shown any food aggression. He is “food curious” and may sniff at other bowls and eye the counter if food is within sight or smell. So, best to keep counters cleared and safe.
Riley has good manners and knows sit, stay (mostly) and shake. He is a fast learner and eager to please. Riley has shown some minor separation anxiety, which his foster family is working with him. Riley arrived in his foster home with a fear of being crated. He is being SLOWLY introduced to the crate and it is uncertain how well he will do with crate training. He as been left with the resident dogs in the house and has been the perfect gentleman…no accidents or destruction.
Riley would be his best self if there was another dog in his forever home. However, Riley CANNOT be in a home with cats or small animals (birds, rodents, bunnies, etc.). In the Old Life of Riley, his “affinity” for chickens got him into trouble with the local farmer and earned him an outlaw nickname of “Johny C.” In the Old Life of Riley, he also was an escape artist. He has not exhibited these tendencies in his foster home, but it is strongly recommended that Riley have a securely fenced in yard or be an urban apartment dweller.
Riley is a sweet guy and will make the perfect forever dog. All that’s missing from the New Life of Riley is you!
Riley is heartworm negative and will be neutered and microchipped before he heads to his forever home.
